Which Alexa Device Do You Think is Perfect For You- Amazon Echo, Echo Dot And Tap

Since its release in late 2014, the Amazon Echo has become the must-have gadget for your home. And now, there are two new members of the family. The Tap, and the Echo Dot. Let's start with the Amazon Echo. This is the original Amazon bluetooth speaker slash personal assistant, and now it's actually expanded to become a smart home hub.

Amazon Echo

Back in 2014, it could only do a couple of things. Like, play music, get news headlines, and set things like timers. "Alexa, add fish food to my shopping list" "Fish food added to your shopping list" These days, the Amazon Echo can do a whole lot more. You can connect to smart home gadgets like Philips Hue lightbulbs and Nest, you could order a pizza from Domino's, and even call up a car from Uber. And as a bluetooth speaker, the Echo is actually pretty good. It's comparable to the UE Boom 2. It gets really loud and it has really great bass.

So the Echo is a great place to start for your smart home hub, but if you really want to expand on it, you should probably get one of these guys:

The Echo Dot

 Echo Dot Second Gen

The Echo Dot is half as much as the Echo, and it does everything the bigger Echo does. Its built in speaker isn't as good as the original Echo's, but you can connect it to your own speakers through bluetooth or an 1/8 inch cable. The Echo Dot is really great for bringing Alexa voice commands to multiple rooms or multiple floors within your home.

One thing I would be really mindful about is positioning the Echo Dot too close to the Echo, because if you ask Alexa to do something, they'll both go off at the same time. (Echo and Echo Dot talk over each other) The Echo Dot is a great value, but for now, you can only order one by saying, "Alexa, order an Echo Dot" through your Echo or Fire TV. That's right. You have to own an Echo, or know someone who does in order to buy the Echo Dot.

Amazon Tap

And finally, we have the Amazon Tap, a bluetooth speaker which also has Alexa built in. It's a pretty standard bluetooth speaker, and honestly, it doesn't sound too great. There are a lot of other speakers out there that sound better and cost less. Since the sound is meh, you're probably buying this for Alexa. But that's where things get complicated. One: you have to press the button in order to use her, so no hands-free voice commands. And two: you have to be connected to a wifi network, which means you can't bring it out to the park unless you have a wifi hotspot.

There is one thing I like about the Amazon Tap. And that is its wireless charging dock. You can just drop the tap right on top, and it immediately starts charging. But I kind of wish that dropping it on the dock would give it hands-free voice commands like the Amazon Echo.

So there you have it. There are now three Alexa-based products to pick from. The Amazon Echo is still the best one, especially if you want to start a smart home. The Echo Dot is a great addition if you already own the Echo, and the Tap... you probably don't want to buy this one.

So now,
